LACUNA: an unfilled space or interval; a gap

What is a Lacuna?

The word lacuna is defined as "an unfilled space or interval; a gap." It is something untranslatable, a word for something for which no word exists. This blog is my lacuna.

My name is Ross Chiasson. Through reading and writing I am looking to explore this unfilled space. Here you'll be able to find book reviews in which I examine literature in order to consider what makes it valuable, what it can teach us, and what it has to tell us about who we are and who we could be. (Occasionally I may post some movie reviews or fictional content).

At present I am working towards my graduate thesis in English (Public Texts) at Trent University. My thesis research (in the kind of broad terms that academics 'love') is focusing on morality and moral status in popular fiction such as The Dark Knight ReturnsDexterBattlestar Galactica, and Westworld.

I hope you will join me on this journey into my own unfilled space. I can't promise anything because I don't know what I'm going to find. But perhaps along the way you can discover something about your own lacuna.
